10/29/10 - Brooks 4 - Governors 0 - Official Game Review

Friday Night Excitement For Brooks Soccer Fans

The score in no way captures the incredible spirit of this match. An enormous crowd from both schools was treated to an excellent display of ISL soccer from both sides. The Governors played with great heart in the first half and matched the visitors stride for stride. While the Brooksians carried much of the play to the home side, it was the estimable Baxter in goal and Wadman and DiFronzo in defense who time and again came up with big plays to neutralize great attacking chances. In the 39th minute Baxter saved Burbank-Crump's effort from the penalty spot and the Govs had very much earned a 0-0 scoreline at the half.

But Brooks was persistent and finally broke through in the 57th minute when sophomore Zach Vieira rifled a shot home from a rebound twelve yards out. This was followed by a superb strike from Elijah Soko on service from Patrick Gordon. It was Vieira again in the 69th minute and Marc Youkel finished in the 90th with a clever assist to Evan Merriam. The match was played at a fine pace with much emotion, yet the play was fairly contested on both sides and well refereed. It was a tremendous show of school spirit from both institutions and a fitting start to the always exciting Brooks-Govs weekend.
