Boys' Varsity Soccer Beats Groton
The Brooks attack was
flying almost from start to finish and created numerous good chances. But it
was Matt Hennrikus who finished first in the 8th minute for a solid Groton
side. Porter Grieve sent a ball over the top in the 17th minute and Elijah Soko
went in alone and calmly finished to knot the score. The halftime score of 1-1
was indicative of a match played well to both ends of the pitch. In the second,
Jon Stronach, dangerous all day, powered his way through the Groton defense in
the 58th minute after collecting a well weighted ball from Alex Vozzella and
willed the ball past the Groton keeper. Jon was a handful all day and totally
dominated his flank offering great service to Soko and his fellow strikers
Vieira and Vozzella. Stronach was then taken down in the box in the 72nd and
Andres Burbank-Crump finished the rebound from a Bukawyn save of his penalty.
The defense was much improved from the previous two matches with the return of
Drew Meyers and the rapid development of Jory Makin. It was a well contested
match on a fine fall day in North Andover. Credit goes to both sides and the
referee for their contributions to it.
